Get connected


There are many ways to control XHub from a distance:
  • With an Apple Remote
  • With a cell phone or PDA using Salling Clicker
  • With a cell phone using Romeo
  • With a cell phone from Sony Ericsson using one of the pre-configured HID files that ships with XHub
  • With any model of ATI's Remote Wonder
  • With a Keyspan remote, or any other remote that supports keyboard navigation

  • Using the Apple Remote
    General controls Enter the hub by pressing the Menu button. Use the volume up/down buttons to navigate in menus. Select with Play. Use the Menu button to go back to a previous menu. Use the previous/next buttons to speed scroll. Give the Play button a long press to put you computer to sleep. Give the Menu button a long press to trigger special actions.

    When XHub is deactivated, the Apple Remote can still be used to control iTunes, DVD Player, iPhoto and even EyeTV.

    Using Salling Clicker (http://www.salling.com)
    General controls Salling Clicker is a reward winning remote control tool that works with over 300 models of Bluetooth-equipped mobile phones and handheld computers. When using XHub with Salling Clicker, browse menu items will be displayed on your mobile's display. The plug-in for Salling Clicker is bundled with XHub's preference pane, in the "Copy plug-in to Desktop" pull-down menu. Please refer to the Salling Clicker documentation for instructions on how to install plug-ins.

    Enter XHub by pressing the Menu key. Use the up/down directional controls to navigate in menus. Select with OK/YES. Use the Menu key to go back to a previous menu. Use the left/right directional controls to speed scroll. Give the OK/YES button a long press to put you computer to sleep. Give the Menu key a long press to trigger special actions.

    You can get some brief help by pressing the Help or hash (#) key.



    Using Romeo (http://www.arboreal.com/romeo)
    General controls Romeo is a freeware alternative to Salling Clicker. It currently only supports a few devices. You will not get any textual feedback on your terminal display.

    Enter XHub by pressing the Menu key. Use the up/down directional controls to navigate in menus. Select with OK/YES. Use the Menu key to go back to a previous menu. Use the left/right directional controls to speed scroll. Give the OK/YES button a long press to put you computer to sleep. Give the Menu key a long press to trigger special actions.

    The plug-in for Romeo is bundled with XHub's preference pane, in the "Copy plug-in to Desktop" pull-down menu. Please refer to the Romeo documentation for instructions on how to install plug-ins.


    Using a HID file
    General controls Another free means of remote controlling XHub is to install a HID (Human Interface Design) file on your handheld. A HID file consists of an image and a keymap. The keymap assigns custom actions to the keypad. The image displays what functions are assigned to each key on keypad. HID files are quick and easy to use, but will not give you any feedback on your terminal display. XHub ships with more than twenty pre-configured HID files for handhelds from Sony Ericsson. The following models are supported: K510, K600, K610, K700, K750, K790, K800, S700, W300, W700, W7ยง0, W810, W850, W900, Z525, Z530, Z550, Z710, Z800.

    Enter XHub by pressing the Menu key. Use the up/down directional controls to navigate in menus. Select with OK/YES. Use the Menu key to go back to a previous menu. Use the left/right directional controls to speed scroll.

    How to install:
    1) Pair your Bluetooth device with your Mac
    2) Open XHub's preference pane. Select the appropriate HID file from the "Copy SE HID file to Desktop" pull-down menu.
    3) Transfer the HID file using Bluetooth File Exchange to the phone. You will be asked to accept it and if you want to use it. Answer yes and start clicking away.

    Using other remotes
    General controls Pre-configured profiles for ATI Remote Wonder, ATI Remote Wonder II and ATI Remote Wonder Plus are bundled with XHub's preference pane, in the "Copy plug-in to Desktop" pull-down menu. For other remotes, such as Keyspan remotes, you must manually configure the remote before using it with XHub. Please refer to your remote's documentation on how to do this. If you need to point the remote's configuration program to the actual XHub application, it is located in [~]/Library/PreferencePanes/XHub.prefPane/Contents/Resources/Xhub.app. (To access the Contents folder, option-click on XHub.prefPane and select "Show package contents")
